Vesak is one of the
biggest festivals of the year in the Buddhist calendar and is celebrated by
Buddhists all over the world. Buddhists commemorate the important events that
took place in the life of Lord Buddha on this Vesak Full Moon Poya Day in May. First
comes the birth of Prince Siddhartha (who will become Lord Buddha) in Lumbini in Nepal which took place
under the arbor of Sat trees where queen Mahamaya gave birth to him. The second
event was Siddharta Gautam's supreme attainment as the Buddha, the Enlightement. The third event was Lord Buddha's entry in the Nirvana 2600 years ago in
Kusinagar.
So lets dress up in white (all Buddhists admire another of the 5 colours, Sri Lanka likes white) and go to the Temple
The family I am living with
So my family
In the Temple worshiping Lord Buddha by bringing flowers and lightening wicks and likewise a sign, mine didn't light up, so Pinky did it
Like all rich Temples, Elefant isn't missing (this one is little bit to wild as beeing a good photo-modell)
sometimes I still don't get the difference to Hinduism
and as the sun went down, we left the Temple
To join the Dansela (free food and booze everywhere on the street)
it was nice ice cream though
our way of feeling the Enlightement
and yes I do love it
I still don't know why some people wear this scary faces, but maybe because the celebrations are in the evening an not in the morning
my mask, still
everybody participate in his way...
